In a city known for its real estate, nightlife, and fashion, you can hear the bass beats resonating through the walls as you step out of the elevator and through the front door of the G Inc Studio. Upon entering you’re greeted by none other than Lu Diaz, who states, “sorry the lab never shuts down”.  This “lab”, as he refers to it, has been where all the countless hours, days and nights have been spent to bring you the hottest record label ever to hit South Florida, The G Inc. This label headed by Lu Diaz, Berto Torres, & Ata Gonzalez serves as evidence that hard work pays off.  Collectively this trio is responsible for launching the careers of artists such as Pitbull, Qwote, Casely, Yungen, P Dot & The Backpack Clik, J Randall, Gabriel Antonio and GST.  Today, the G Inc brand, announces the signing of an artist whose name is synonymous with Miami, a pop culture icon with fans within every race and nation, Luther Campbell p/k/a Uncle Luke.  Campbell is hip-hop’s original Bad Boy…

For a time one of the most controversial figures in the music business, Luther Campbell was launched on his road to notoriety when he began the rap group 2 Live Crew and established what would become known as the “Miami Bass” sound.  At the height of their notoriety, 2 Live Crew released As Nasty As They Want To Be and its single-album counterpart As Clean As They Want To Be. By this time the group had become one of the prime targets of conservative censorship groups like the American Family Association.  The year after the album’s release Campbell and his band mates found themselves bearing the brunt of the Florida legal system’s reactionary tendencies.  A District Judge declared the material “obscene”.  Garnishing tremendous press along the way, the case would make its way to the Supreme Court and end up being overturned 2 years later.  The court case brought sales of As Nasty As They Want To Be up into the multiple millions and gave 2 Live Crew an international profile that they would never have otherwise received.

“Luke put South Florida on the hip-hop map, he paved the way for everyone that has followed, including ourselves, we grew up on Luke’s music,” exclaims Torres.  Simply put, Luther Campbell is more than a multi-platinum selling artist. He is a legend. Campbell has a distinction that neither time nor current chart status can diminish: he is hip-hop’s first. “Before OutKast, Ludacris, or Jermaine Dupri, topped Billboard charts, Luther Campbell was the first Southern rap star. He was one of the first artists to own a thriving independent record label in the South and one of the first in the country. He was the first rapper to shoot videos in Miami with scantily-clad girls on beaches and boats. ”His early business model  laid the entrepreneurial blueprint which we use today in hip-hop, he is the architect, and now he continues to blaze trails as he takes his company into the Publicly Traded arena”, says Ata Gonzalez.

Industry insiders remain impressed with the status that this indie label has achieved in such a short period of time. In an industry where all roads to success seem blocked by the existing Giants, these three visionaries are constantly finding a way to carve their own path. “The name of our game is relationships, we are honored to have Luke on board our label, he is King,” says Lu Diaz. The timing could not have been better, as Luke hits national television via VH-1 with his new reality show titled Luke’s Parental Advisory.  The series chronicles Luke’s day-to-day activities as he juggles responsibilities between the two vastly different worlds of family life and running an adult entertainment business. Famous for his notoriously raunchy lifestyle, the founding member of 2 Live Crew is preparing to settle down with his fiancée Kristin, a straight-laced attorney. Luke’s Parental Advisory  airs Monday nights at 10:30PM Eastern Standard Time on VH-1.  Click on the link to view his new hit video and theme song to the show Uncle Luke’s Rodeo.
