DEJAHVUE BLOW’S UP AT RADIO STATIONS ACROSS THE COUNTRY!!!!

Posted by bigced on July 14, 2008

Brooklyn’s newest hip-hop diva, Dejahvue, makes a smash at radio stations across the nation with her fresh, fun, but not-to-be-played-with debut single on Pink Panther Records, “I’m That Chick” (remix).  Originally produced by Sheldon “Teflon” Harris, and David “Miz” West, the remixed elements come through producer Larry “Detroit” Nix.  Quoted by Hip-Hop Weekly as “a triple threat….and more than a pretty face,” Dejahvue’s debut single, “I’m That Chick” is garnering more than 500 spins weekly, at over 20 radio stations across the country.

With a breakout single and sound very reminiscent of a young Roxanne Shante, Dejahvue is a bonafied lyricist, with a flow that is surely to cement her as one of today’s top female MC’s.  Currently raking in a total of 495 spins weekly at urban radio alone, “I’m That Chick” (remix) steadily climbs to the top of the charts at a surprising rate.  Stapled the “Princess of Rap,” Dejahvue’s “I’m That Chick” (remix) has become somewhat of an anthem for teen girls across the nation.  As she plans to tour markets garnering top radio spins of the record, Dejahvue comes as a breath of fresh air within the hip-hop culture bringing a sense of femininity, and grace to a genre already portrayed by the media as tough, crime-ridden, and stereotyped.

With the overt sexuality out of the equation, she’s taking you back to the day’s of Lil Kim, and Foxy Brown in terms of female MC’s actually being portrayed as feminine beings, with a love for fashion, make-up, and as she oh so poignantly references, her “lipstick, not lip-gloss,” Dejahvue will certainly be breaking the mold of female MC’s to come out of NY in the past 10 years as a lady.

Kia Shine Speaks Out On Incident With Three 6 Mafia

Posted by bigced on July 14, 2008

Memphis artist Kia Shine recently was in the midst of an alleged altercation with fellow hometown group Three 6 Mafia. Last week, the group had a meet and greet at Cats music store in Midtown Memphis, TN to support their new album “Last 2 Walk.” Kia Shine decided to make an appearance showing support by letting them know that he purchased the album. According to the video footage, which was videoed by Conversation Piece Magazine, the group thanked him for purchasing the album and then after Kia Shine walked away, footage shows DJ Paul yelling at Kia Shine.

“When you first started off you did New York style music, and when it didn’t work, then you started doing down south music,” stated DJ Paul to Kia Shine. “Naw you not M Town because you never did M Town music until other sh*t didn’t sell n*gga,” DJ Paul continued. The video does not show Kia Shine on camera at all during these words, so it is not known whether he was still in attendance or left the building. Juicy J also joined in by yelling, “Shut the f*ck up!”

When asked whether he was aware of what was going on at the moment, Kia Shine said “when I first got off the stage I didn’t even hear the sh*t and then when I went to YouTube all of this sh*t was a surprise to me too because I didn’t even see the sh*t they was all saying. I wasn’t even there.”

Kia Shine said to WordofSouth.com that he in fact did not appreciate that a video was put together. “Y’all some YouTube goons. Why when I was right there in front of y’all, y’all n*ggas was dappin’ and smiling and sh*t or whatever, but when I leave, y’all on that bullsh*t.”

As previously stated the video was shot by Conversation Piece Magazine, so it is not known if they were in connection with Three 6 Mafia, but Kia Shine takes issue with them because of the way the video was shot and music on the video making it seem like Kia Shine was hating on Three 6 Mafia. “I’m there to show support to these n*ggas, I was just with them at the BET Awards, and I’ve been with them like four or five different times since then. If I thought that it would have been an issue, I would not have come up there in the first place, so that’s what really threw me because, damn, we were just together.”

Kia Shine also stated that he is in the process of editing a response to the video and should be out within the next few days, but did say that he planned to reach out to DJ Paul and Juicy J regarding the situation. “I’m definitely going to have a conversation with them.”

Kia Shine released his latest album “Due Season” last July under Universal Motown, but has since left the label, but is currently in talks with another label. He is working on a new album titled “Respect Due” which he said should be released sometime in 2009. He also plans to release “The Kush” DVD later on this year.

INVIZZIBL MEN (KARNIEGE & MARQ SPEKT) SET TO RELEASE DEBUT SOLO-LP, THE UNVEILIN

Posted by bigced on July 14, 2008

The covers are finally coming off The Unveiling, the debut LP from MarQ Spekt and Karniege as The Invizzibl Men. The result is a ferociously hard hitting record bristling with gunmetal beats and lyrics still dripping with spray-paint.

While others attempt to recreate hip-hop’s golden age, The Invizzibl Men reinvent hardcore east-coast hip-hop, annihilating verses over futuristic boom-bap. The collaboration might be new, but the duo has earned their stripes as solo artists; Karniege did a stint on the Definitive Jux roster, dropping the memorable “Make News” 12”, toured the world with Vast Aire several times over and kept his name ringing in the underground by popping up on projects by everyone from DJ Ese to Dub L to The Reavers.

MarQ Spekt’s lineage is equally storied if a little grimier; signed to the legendary Subverse records alongside artists like MF DOOM and The Micronauts, MarQ was prominently featured on all of Bigg Jus of Company Flow’s solo albums and the brain behind the streetwise Broady Champs ‘05 debut…Spekt has already cemented his place in the underground pantheon without stepping out of the shadows–until now.

Guests on The Unveiling include Cannibal Ox, C-Rayz, Billy Woods and the Broady Champs. Backwoodz Studioz is proud to present what we believe will be one of this millennium’s underground hip-hop classics.

Tracklisting and credits for Invizzibl Men’s The Unveiling:

1.) Introcutlery

2.) Futurama

3.) Zookeeper f/Vordul Mega

4.) HipHopPSA

5.) 52 Lashings f/billy woods

6.) Jimmy Swagger

7.) T-Rex f/C-Rayz Walz

8.) Darkroom [Red Warfare Sessions]

Hip Hop Activist Accepts VP Bid for McKinney’s Green Party Run

Hip Hop Activist Accepts VP Bid for McKinney’s Green Party Run

by Davey D

Rosa Clemente accepting a bid to run as VP on Cynthia McKinney’s Green Party ticket is big news. In fact its great news. First Rosa is no joke. This Bronx born-Puerto Rican-African sista is sharp on the issues and uncompromising on the principals she stands for. She stands tall and fights fiercely for the communities and people she has long represented. She is more than qualified.

The other thing that is equally important is that Rosa gives voice to a variety of issues impacting the community that have been increasingly put on the back burner during this election season.
many of us have waited eagerly for important issues like the prison industrial complex, media justice, gentrification, a just immigration policy, police brutality (i.
e Sean Bell), war crimes and impeachment proceedings being levied on those in high office responsible and the Palestinian perspective in the Middle East to be addressed. With each passing day they seem to be tossed under the bus with the conventional wisdom being middle of the road white voters from small towns need to be appeased. Hence important issues like the aforementioned keep getting sacrificed.

The other day, a prominent TV News commentator made a highly offensive, arrogant remark when addressing the recent shift to the right by Democratic nominee Barack Obama.
He was talking about how those who see themselves as progressive and grassroots and played significant roles in the success of the Obama campaign, were feeling disenchanted and had gone so far as to stage a financial protest by withholding campaign donations until Obama reversed himself.

The pundit was asked if this will hurt Obama, he said it would not. Obama can afford to sacrifice those issues because that group of people have nowhere else to go. In other words they (we) can be taken for granted. That is never a good way to go into a campaign. See the way things work is like that. We start off making the sacrifice as our candidate goes for these so called middle of the road white rural voters. The game plan is once he/she gets in office he/she will start addressing our issues.

Unfortunately what usually happens is that as soon as they get into office they have to continue making sacrifices to make sure the party gets people re-elected in Congress and the Senate. We saw this with Bill Clinton. In his attempt to get folks re-elected he led the charge dismantling welfare, building up more prisons and of course shuttling in media consolidation. Wanna know how Fox News and crazed racist right wing talk show hosts came into power? Look at the media policies of Bill Clinton. All this happened when we were all being told to hush up and let him do these things to help make sure the house and senate are won by Democrats.

Well this is what happened. The house and Senate were not won by democrats. All that sacrificing to appeal to white middle of the road rural voters didn’t do a damn thing except lay the foundation for problems we are dealing with today. When I see Obama who I’ve supported cave in on FISA, give a luke warm response to Sean Bell, support faith based Initiatives, do an about face on campaign reform and ‘refine’ his position on the war, I start having flashbacks to Bill Clinton.
When will the sacrifices stop?

Hell lets look back to 2006 when the Democrats took over the house and senate. The victories was a mandate from voters to immediately end the war and start impeachment proceedings against George Bush for lying about our reasons for going to War. Well as we know that never happened. Progressives and grassroots people were told to pipe down and sacrifice because we needed to make sure the white house was taken back and hence impeachment and ending the war was not feasible if we wanted to make that happen. The sacrifices never stop.

Whether McKinney and Clemente stand a snowball’s chance in winning is not the issue as much as it is making sure large bodies of people go on record to say there are important issues that need to be addressed.

Instead of appealing to fickle middle of the road voters who more often than not don’t even support us, how about going after the 30-40% of the people who don’t vote? How about really being a candidate of change and figuring out innovative ways to appeal to them. Trying to out Bush Bush and his croonies has never ever worked. So right on Rosa Clemente. we wish you luck and we can count on you to ALWAYS speak truth to power and not cave in.

Lastly Clemente, reps a trend of young Hip Hop generation folks making big moves.
First we have BET correspondent Jeff Johnson possibly being the next commentator on the Tom Joyner morning show.
He may be the voice to replace Tavis Smiley.

Next we have Dr Lamont Hill getting a permanent spot on the Fox News Team where he is frequent talking head. Hill is by no means a right winger and he always hold it down. He most recently shut down Bill O’Reilly during an on air debate.

In Brooklyn’s 10th congressional district, longtime Hip Hop activist Kevin Powell has a really good shot at unseating a 26 year incumbent.
So good are Kevin’s chances is that the democratic machine that has long backed this Congressman Ed Towns has all but abandoned him. Kev is the man with the momentum.

In Atlanta Hip Hop generation head 31 year old Rev.
Markel Hutchins
is mounting a serious challenge to iconic civil rights figure John Lewis.
In a recent debate, Lewis was ano show which did not bode well with people in his district who are beginning to wonder if he’s out of touch. Most importantly, Hutchins campaign forced Lewis to stop backing Hillary Clinton and get behind Obama. Hutchins called Lewis out for being in opposition with 85% of the district.

Below is a recent speech Clemente gave at the media reform conference.

Hip Hop Activist Accepts VP Slot to Run w/ Cynthia McKinney

JULY 9th, 2008

Today Rosa A.
Clemente released the following statement:

“I am honored and excited to accept this invitation to run with Cynthia McKinney. Cynthia McKinney is a hero to me and many others across this country and around the world for her courage in standing up to George Bush while the Democratic Party establishment caved.

“This campaign is the opportunity the Hip-Hop generation has been working for. This is our time to address the issues affecting our communities – rising unemployment, the high cost of food and housing, a lack of quality public education and access to higher education, the prison-industrial complex, and unaccountable corporate media. These issues are not being addressed by either the Republican or Democratic nominee.

“I choose to do this, not for me, but for my generation, my community and my daughter. I don’t see the Green Party as an alternative; I see it as an imperative. I trust that my Vice Presidential run will inspire all people, but especially young people of color, to recognize that we have more then two choices. Together, we can build the future we’ve been wanting.

Hip-hop artist M1 says, “I’ve never voted in the Presidential election; I’ve never felt strongly enough about a candidate to. Knowing that Rosa Clemente is down with Cynthia McKinney’s run, I feel that now is the greatest opportunity for the Hip-Hop community to put our collective strength and power to the test and vote for someone who represents who we are and what we stand for.

Common Market announces September 9th release of Tobacco Road on HYENA/ MassLine

Posted by bigced on July 14, 2008

Common Market announces September 9th release of Tobacco Road on HYENA/ MassLine.

“Scion’s flow is liquid, with superb word choice and breath control, while anyone who has heard Rawkus’ Blue Scholars knows Sabzi’s old-school soul fueled beats easily rival those of 9th Wonder.” - Pop Matters

“Common Market have created a work that’s brought them closer to the region of hiphop greatness. This is no exaggeration.” – The Stranger

In the wake of critical acclaim for their fervid spring release of the Black Patch War EP, Common Market and HYENA/ MassLine (RA Scion and Sabzi [Blue Scholars]) present the new Common Market Full Length Tobacco Road, available September 9th 2008.

Tobacco Road showcases a more lyrically engaged RA Scion over Sabzi’s most creative and melodic compositions to-date.  It is laden with heavy introspection and RA Scion’s staunch personal convictions on life, love and art with meaning, but is noticeably absent of the feeling of pseudo-evangelical idealism.  Where Common Market carried youthful directives such as “liquor stores [should be] raised to make way for art galleries,” the more mature Tobacco Road is circumspect in its approach: “…planted seven rows – will it ever grow?  Heaven only knows…  Set it deep into the earth, work and serve, all the rest – let it come or not…”

The album begins by setting the scene in rural Kentucky where the audience attends a fiery Southern Baptist sermon pertaining to honest labor.  The intensity of the pastor’s delivery coupled with the implication of his assertion “NO FREE RIDES!” adequately prepares the listener for what is to come on “Trouble Is,” the album’s cornerstone track, craftily establishing the proverbial farmer as the LP’s central character.

The struggle of the farmer continues on tracks such as “Gol’Dust” and “Slow Cure,” as it becomes evident to the discerning listener that he and the emcee are, in fact, one in the same.  Tobacco Road, from beginning to end, is an allegorical tale of service to the community from the perspective of an active participant; it touches freely on the good, the bad, and often times the ugly.

The album is not an “easy read,” however, and was not fashioned to be fully digested in a single sitting.  Tobacco Road is comprised of 18 tracks, within which lie hidden gems which the listener will appreciate with dedicated discovery.  Upon closer examination, you’ll find the incorporation of seasonal progression in reference to the album’s

agricultural influence.  But as important to this album is it’s groove and fantastic production. Sabzi has prepared a masterpiece complete with hard-hitting drums, soul-drenched samples and authentic piano compositions; the album’s outro, a 90-second impromptu display of Sabzi’s command over the ivories, serves as an expert auditory summation of all the emotion packed into Tobacco Road.
