Posted by bigced on March 3, 2008

Geffen Records recording artist, hit-making singer/songwriter, reality TV show star, and Grammy-nominated force KEYSHIA COLE, continues to deliver the numbers with “I REMEMBER,” her third (3rd) consecutive single from her platinum-selling sophomore CD, JUST LIKE YOU, resting at the #1 spot of Billboard’s “Hot R&B/Hip Hop” chart for the third (3rd) week in a row. Her first two singles “Shoulda Let You Go,” featuring Missy and Lil’ Kim and “Let It Go” also share the #1 on the chart honor.

This success comes after the outstanding news of her BET reality show “The Way I Am” taking the #1 spot as the highest rated show in BET history making it the most viewed show ever on the network.

The platinum-selling JUST LIKE YOU (Cole’s 2nd consecutive platinum album) is selling an average of 30,000 copies a week making her a current top-seller for Universal Music Group as a whole.

Heaven Sent” makes for the third video from JUST LIKE YOU being shot by video director mainstay Benny Boom.  The breezy video being shot in sunny Hawaii on March 4th is based on the soul-stirring “Footprints” poem. The single is produced by Jason Farmer and written by Keyshia Cole.

Who Are The Dino-5?

Posted by bigced on March 3, 2008

First Ever Prehistoric Hip-Hop Supergroup (Prince Paul, Chali 2na, Lady Bug Mecca, Scratch, and Wordsworth) Come Together for ‘Baby Loves Hip Hop’ April 1 (Baby Loves Music)

Once up on a time in Dinosaurland, there were Dinosaur kids, who had a Dinosaur band/ And they played music, and it wasn’t jazz, or rock. It was Dinosaur hip-hop, and it couldn’t be stopped!

On April 1, Baby Loves Music will release the first ever album of prehistoric hip-hop with ‘Baby Loves Hip Hop’. Following the adventures of five paleolithic pals as they gear up for the big school talent show, ‘Baby Loves Hip Hop’ is an thrilling blend of music, rhymes, poetry, storytelling, and beatboxing . But who exactly are The Dino-5?

MC T-Rex (Chali 2na): MC T-Rex is the biggest, scariest kid on the block, with huge legs and ferocious teeth. None of the other dino-kids want to play with him. But he’s actually misunderstood- as he says, “When you see me, you gotta think twice/ I may be big and scary, but I’m really pretty nice!”. T-rex is played by Chali 2na, a founding member of critically acclaimed hip-hop band Jurassic-5, and the multiethnic Latin rock/ hip-hop collective Ozomatli.

Billy Brontosaurus (Wordsworth): Billy is the diplomat of the group, the first of the other dino-kids to talk to MC T-Rex when the kids’ soccer ball lands near him. Billy is vegetarian who loves books, cars, zoos, weekends, and swimming, and finds that he has a lot in common with T-Rex (even though he can’t believe T-Rex doesn’t like broccoli!). Billy is voiced by Wordsworth, a Brooklyn-bred MC who rose to fame as a gifted freestylist on the Lyricist Lounge compilations, and has appeared on albums by A Tribe Called Quest and Black Star.

Tracy Triceratops (Lady Bug Mecca): Tracy is the leader of the Dino-5, and the last holdout to accept T-Rex into the group. But after a friendly game of “the dozens” in Billy Brontosaurus’ basement on “That’s Funny”, she invites him to be part of the band to perform in the big school talent show. Tracy is played by Lady Bug Mecca, a member of the seminal hip-hop group Digable Planets, who won a GRAMMY in 1993 for their song “Rebirth of Slick.”

TEO Pterodactyl (Scratch): The dino beatboxer who makes crazy rhythms with his mouth, TEO punctuates the Dino-5’s raps with scratches, vocal samples, and inventive beats, all of his own creation. TEO is actually Scratch, a 10-year veteran of the GRAMMY-winning hip hop ensemble The Roots, who also released a solo album, The Embodiment of Instrumentation, on Ropeadope Records.

DJ Stegosaurus (Prince Paul): They say the DJ is the backbone of hip-hop, and the Dino-5 couldn’t have a stronger backbone than the spiky one on DJ Stegosaurus, who created all the bouncy, slinky, and rump-shaking beats for the group. Prince Paul is the mastermind behind DJ Stegosaurus- a legendary hip-hop producer who began his career with Stetsasonic in 1984, and produced the milestone album ‘3 Feet High and Rising’ by De La Soul (who make a guest appearance on ‘Baby Loves Hip Hop’). More recently, he’s teamed up with Dan The Automator for several albums as The Handsome Boy Modeling School and currently hosts “The Ill Out Show” on XM Radio.

The Industry Cosign

industry-cosign_535×230.jpg

The Industry Cosign is a community for people who are working or are interested in the urban entertainment industry. It is an online conference room to discuss current events, trends and personal development. This website is quickly becoming the premiere destination for the latest news, photos and happenings from Harlem to the Bowery and beyond. We checked in with Industry Cosign’s founder, Big Ced, for some NYC insider info.

What brought you to New York?
My parents, since they came here and I had no choice at the time but to live with them being that they birthed me!

What do you love about living in New York?
The diversity of cultures, races, religions, ethnicities, the openness of most neighborhoods, the pretty women, the open-minded people, the fact that it’s open 24 hours, seven days a week. The selection of food, entertainment, theater, sports and you can basically find anything but fresh air in New York City!

What do you think makes a New Yorker?
It’s all about the attitude!!!! In certain sections of the city, you have to be a certain way to fit in and represent where you are from. It’s hard to describe a typical New Yorker, but it does come down to toughness and more importantly, ATTITUDE!!!

What surprises you about New York or New Yorkers?
I’ve been here all my life so nothing surprises me anymore!!

When you leave New York, what do you miss the most?
The busyness and diversity of the city, everything that makes New York, New York

Do you know any tricks or insider info?
If I tell you, I have to, well, I just can’t give away secrets!!

Tell us about your blog… what is the premise, what are your main coverage areas, how did you get started?

Well, I don’t consider my website a blog, being that I will be celebrating the fourth anniversary of The Industry Cosign (www.theindustrycosign.com) but the site is really an informational and networking website. It’s, for a lack of better words, an online magazine in terms of having artist interviews, executive profiles, daily news, whatever pertinent information to get your day going by coming to the site!

Best corny tourist attraction that you secretly love?
The city tourist spots, basically all of them, from the Empire State Building to Central Park to the Bronx Zoo to the Botanical Gardens.

Best neighborhood bar?
Damn, hard one….I go to so many neighborhoods…ha ha! But, I am more biased with this choice because I also do weekly parties there on Thursdays, but Negril Village (70 West 3rd Street) is a good choice because the décor, atmosphere and staff is great! The choice of drinks and some of the people who go there on a regular basis are one of a kind and there are always good looking women there!

Best late night joint?
Hmmmm, very tough one as to me not having a favorite because I ‘tour’ the night clubs, ha ha!

Last cultural thing that you did (movie, museum, theatre, etc…)
Hmmmm, took a drive through Harlem! J

Best fancy schmancy restaurant?
I do love Michael Jordan’s Steakhouse….

Best place to meet members of the opposite sex?
In New York? Man….. EVERYWHERE and I do mean EVERYWHERE, the trains, the library, the grocery store, Macy’s, the street, my dreams…..

Best place to hear live music?

Village Underground and Café Wha? Comes to mind, but I am sure there are many in many neighborhoods.
