With an ear for finding the best new talent in the music industry, Bryan Leach, who during his 11 years at TVT Records discovered Hip Hop royalty including Lil Jon, Ying Yang Twins and Pitbull, was tapped by the legendary Clive Davis of J Records to form a new label to find and develop the hit-makers of tomorrow. Bryan’s highest profile artist, Hurricane Chris, who was nominated for 3 BET Hip Hop Awards and has toured with Chris Brown, Soulja Boy, Bow Wow, and Sean Kingston amongst others, has combined digital and physical sales of over 4.5 million units from his debut album ‘51/50 Ratchet.’ Hurricane Chris’ first single ‘A Bay Bay’ became one of the most popular ring tones in the United States in 2007. In the first half of 2008, Polo Grounds Music will be releasing albums from their diverse roster of artists, including rappers Diamond and C-Ride, & R&B/Pop artists Nina Sky, Candace Jones and Boxie.
Fila recognized the synergies between the art of sport and music and approached Polo Grounds Music to develop a mutually beneficial relationship. Hurricane Chris, began at the end of January exclusively on BET nationwide. This spot was the first initiative of Polo Grounds’ strategic brand division. Just before the launch of Hurricane Chris’ album, Fila hosted a special listening session for his top MySpace.com fans at the Fila Lounge; a cool, contemporary location for an intimate mix of music and fresh Fila product. ‘Live at the Fila Lounge’ was later broadcast online where it received over fifty thousand views over a 3-day period. Polo Grounds Music integrated Fila
apparel and the Fila Helmsman shoe into Hurricane Chris’ “Playas Rock” video that is now in heavy rotation on BET and MTV. During his run on the Chris Brown tour which
visited 37 cities nationwide, Hurricane Chris wore Fila products on-stage during his performances and his tour bus touted the launch of the Fila Helmsman shoe. Fila’s consumer incentive program brought Hurricane Chris to select retailers for personal appearances and enter to win contests for tour VIP passes. Fila and Polo Grounds Music will continue to develop programs throughout 2008 which will create brand relevance for Fila and promotional exposure for Polo Grounds Music.
