FILA & Polo Grounds Music Enter Into New Dynamic Partnership

Posted by bigced on February 22, 2008

With the art of sport and music being so entrenched with each other, it is only natural that a sport/lifestyle brand would join forces with an edgy, independent label in the music industry. Fila and Polo Grounds Music have developed a relationship in which both parties collaborate to promote emerging musical talent as well as new fashion lifestyle apparel and footwear.

With an ear for finding the best new talent in the music industry, Bryan Leach, who during his 11 years at TVT Records discovered Hip Hop royalty including Lil Jon, Ying Yang Twins and Pitbull, was tapped by the legendary Clive Davis of J Records to form a new label to find and develop the hit-makers of tomorrow. Bryan’s highest profile artist, Hurricane Chris, who was nominated for 3 BET Hip Hop Awards and has toured with Chris Brown, Soulja Boy, Bow Wow, and Sean Kingston amongst others, has combined digital and physical sales of over 4.5 million units from his debut album ‘51/50 Ratchet.’ Hurricane Chris’ first single ‘A Bay Bay’ became one of the most popular ring tones in the United States in 2007. In the first half of 2008, Polo Grounds Music will be releasing albums from their diverse roster of artists, including rappers Diamond and C-Ride, & R&B/Pop artists Nina Sky, Candace Jones and Boxie.

Fila recognized the synergies between the art of sport and music and approached Polo Grounds Music to develop a mutually beneficial relationship. Fila has a history of creating trends that bridge the gap between sports and lifestyle. In today’s market, music is a key influencer in the purchase decisions of consumers. According to Jennifer
Estabrook, Fila’s VP Business Operations, “Fila recognizes the strong bond between the arts. By aligning the Fila brand with relevant tastemakers and influencers we gain
credibility and exposure with one group of our target consumers. The partnership with Polo Grounds Music is the cornerstone of our urban marketing initiative and will enhance our momentum and market share.”

“There has always been a strong relationship between music and sport,” said Bryan Leach, President and Founder of Polo Grounds Music and Senior Vice President/Urban for RCA Music Group. “Now, Polo Grounds and FILA are taking that synergy to new heights. The FILA brand is a proven one, rich in history and together we will continue to grow that legacy.”

The partnership between Fila and Polo Grounds Music is centered on a fully integrated marketing and public relations program. Fila and Polo Grounds Music’s marketing
program integrates print, broadcast and online advertising with retail promotions, artist tour support and album launch initiatives. To coincide with the launch of the Fila
‘Helmsman’ shoe, Fila created a print campaign featuring Hurricane Chris that can be seen in Blender, Fader, BPM and Giant. Fila’s return to broadcast advertising featuring
Hurricane Chris, began at the end of January exclusively on BET nationwide. This spot was the first initiative of Polo Grounds’ strategic brand division. Just before the launch of Hurricane Chris’ album, Fila hosted a special listening session for his top MySpace.com fans at the Fila Lounge; a cool, contemporary location for an intimate mix of music and fresh Fila product. ‘Live at the Fila Lounge’ was later broadcast online where it received over fifty thousand views over a 3-day period. Polo Grounds Music integrated Fila
apparel and the Fila Helmsman shoe into Hurricane Chris’ “Playas Rock” video that is now in heavy rotation on BET and MTV. During his run on the Chris Brown tour which
visited 37 cities nationwide, Hurricane Chris wore Fila products on-stage during his performances and his tour bus touted the launch of the Fila Helmsman shoe. Fila’s consumer incentive program brought Hurricane Chris to select retailers for personal appearances and enter to win contests for tour VIP passes. Fila and Polo Grounds Music will continue to develop programs throughout 2008 which will create brand relevance for Fila and promotional exposure for Polo Grounds Music.

Established in Italy in 1911, Fila is a leading manufacturer of footwear and apparel for sport and leisure that has developed excellent brand recognition by marketing products
with a high design and style content that are endorsed by professional artists and athletes from around the world.

Polo Grounds Music is a full service entertainment & marketing company with a focus on publishing, management, and brand marketing. Founded in 2006 by Bryan Leach, the
New York based company is home to record label Polo Grounds Music, which is distributed through RCA Records.

Is Steroids Really An Issue? What Congress Really Needs To Focus On…..

Posted by bigced on February 22, 2008

Thought of and conceived and then written by BIG CED

Congress, according to dictionary.com:

1. (initial capital letter)
a. the national legislative body of the U.S., consisting of the Senate, or upper house, and the House of Representatives, or lower house, as a continuous institution.
b. this body as it exists for a period of two years during which it has the same membership: the 96th Congress.
c. a session of this body: to speak in Congress.
2. the national legislative body of a nation, esp. of a republic.
3. a formal meeting or assembly of representatives for the discussion, arrangement, or promotion of some matter of common interest.
4. the act of coming together; an encounter; meeting.
5. an association, esp. one composed of representatives of various organizations.
6. familiar relations; dealings; intercourse.
7. coitus; sexual intercourse.

Well, I never knew about number 6 and 7 but it makes sense when it comes to these elected officials!

Now I write about the meaning of Congress today because, as we all know, there is an issue being discussed in congress about the use of steroids and HGH (Human Growth Hormone) in professional sports, baseball specifically. Money is being spent trying to go after the likes of Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds and other prominent players who are suspected of using steroids and/or HGH which is banned in professional sports. These players are being labeled cheaters and not playing by the rules in pursuit of personal achievements and longevity in their respective sports. All of this attention being paid to this issue when it should be governed by the sports officials of the professional organizations (Even though they are doing a poor job of monitoring and punishing players rumored and/or caught taking the illegal substances). I mention this to say why isn’t the same type of attention being paid to the social ills in our communities?

Ills such as racism, homelessness, financial crises, crime, oil and gas price gouging, insurance companies’ unnecessary high premiums and low payouts. Education, the corrupted political system, the unfair prison system, social security reform, etc., you get the picture!

Congress needs to refocus on more important matters, I know when I voted, I didn’t do it to have them make sure our sports players were not using illegal drugs to enhance their game!
