Who Would You Rather?

Posted by bigced on February 19, 2008

The Democratic race for President of The United Sates is not ending anytime soon, Congress cares more about steroids in baseball than they do about the struggles and crises in the community, The New York Knicks have the worst coach in New York Sports history and the weather is still crazy around the world, so let’s get your mind off these and other things with the latest edition of ‘Who Would You Rather?’

Remember that we all have choices and when you have choices, make sure you pick what’s best for you as no one can think like you do or feel the way you feel! My purpose for writing this is to give you something to think about when you are looking at the selections I have made for this particular column. Enjoy and I anticipate your comments!

Teddy Pendergrass or Luther Vandross?

Now both balladeers, no doubt, can lay it down and both are known for making the ladies melt, but which CD of Greatest Hits would you place in your player when it comes down to getting that special someone in the mood (Or just to get the booty)?

De La Soul or A Tribe Called Quest?

Both Native Tongue groups were instrumental in many things Hip-Hop. Both groups had their signature posse songs (A Tribe Called Quest- Scenario and De La Soul- Buddy) and both groups have a discography that is unmatched by many Hip-Hop artists, let alone groups. If both groups were having a concert on the same night, same time, in the same city, which group gets seen by you that night?

The O’Jays or LeVert?

Of course if it weren’t for The O’Jays, there wouldn’t be a LeVert, no doubt. The offspring of Eddie LeVert (The O’Jays) comprised 2/3 of LeVert and being that Eddie and Gerald (R.I.P.) sound amazingly alike, which group would you prefer to listen to?

Salma Hayek or Penelope Cruz?

Salma is my dream woman, so I am definitely biased towards her, plus, do you see that body? Did you see From Dusk to Dawn? Anyway, these 2 best friends could pass for sisters if you are drunk and happen to see them out together, but who has the better acting chops? If you are in Blockbuster and you had a choice between a Salma movie or a Penelope flick, who gets the nod?

Donell Jones or Joe?

Some may say that there is no difference as they encompass the same type of crooner but which one would melt the heart of a woman quicker? We know they both can sing and they both have a respectable track listing when it comes to music, but who would you choose to listen to?

Peabo Bryson or Howard Hewitt?

Both vocalists were from a time where you had to be a singer in order to get a recording deal. They both come from a time that when it came to performing live, you HAD to have it or have no career at all. Both are real soul singers that make you feel what they are feeling when they get those vocal cords ready to serenade their audience, but who would be invited to sing at your wedding?

Spring or Autumn?

They are both essentially the same season and weather with the exception of one leading from hot to cold and vice versa, but we all have to admit that the perfect blend of winter and summer is exciting as you get the best of both worlds when it comes to the weather, but which is better for you?

P!nk or Christina Aguilera?

Both women would smack the shit out of Britney Spears in the vocal department, the sane department and the physical department, but of course, they both get kicked when it comes to exposure and album sales! But who would you rather pick with this one, the rebellious former Mouseketeer or the rebellious former R & Ber?

En Vogue or Destiny’s Child?

Now both groups were the shit when they were hot and if you take out the Beyonce factor, some would say that the groups’ success were pretty much even, so what is your choice?

Good Times or The Jeffersons?

One was about the struggle in the ghetto; the other was about the success of someone who got out the ghetto. One got laughs off of the hardships, while the other got laughs on not having the hardships anymore. I am sure most of us could relate to both ‘perceived’ struggles, but when you’re at home reminiscing, which TV show would show up on your set?

Cassettes Won’t Listen Remixes Bisc1 – “Turbulence”

Posted by bigced on February 19, 2008

12″ Single for lead single “Turbulence” is hand silkscreened & features Cassettes Won’t Listen Remix

The Song:

“Turbulence” is the lead single from Bisc1’s upcoming When Electric Night Falls album. The limited edition 12″ is packaged in hand screened jacket designed by Bisc1. The original track features production from Blockhead and Jonny Vegus. Cassettes Wont Listen was enlisted for this exclusive remix. Cassettes Wont Listen and Bisc1 have been long time collaborators; in fact CWL has lent his production skills to every Bisc1 project to date.

“Turbulence” in Bisc1’s own words:

“Strap in and enjoy the ride”
“Life is full of highs and lows contrasted with left and right turns. Variables arise that can throw you for a loop adding the element of unpredictability to the plans. In a world of so much contrast, a steady search for balance is inevitable. “Turbulence” is a reflection of the decisions made, the ones ahead and the encompassing second-guessing that comes with those predicaments. Becoming addicted to these choices and changes there is a constant attempting to grasp the unknown. The message is clear, “You wanna rock with b? Enjoy the ride. Lets go back and forth. Side to side.”

The Background:

A native of Massachusetts by way of Connecticut, Bisc1 moved to NYC 10 years ago and quickly made a name for himself DJ’ing at clubs, distributing mixtapes, and in graffiti circles.  Soon, Bisc1 picked up the mic and won several battle raps including the Whose Line Is It monthly at the Knitting Factory in NYC 4 consecutive months in a row. His debut release, The Basics EP (2006), gained the favorable attention of music critics and his subsequent release, The Stay Up Project mixtape (2007) was downloaded over 5000 times.  Bisc’s penchant for capturing our chaotic reality with his narratives, images, and collaborations has earned him a reputation as one of the most honest and creative artists of today. Going beyond music, Bisc1 is also an accomplished graphic artist.  He’s done cover art, designed promotional materials and spearheaded art direction for artists such as Aesop Rock, The Perceptionists, C-Rayz-Walz, Murs, El-P, and others.  His art has been featured in several magazines and art house coffee table books and in galleries, such as Danny Simmon’s Rush Arts Gallery. When Electric Night Falls, for which Bisc did all the art direction, will be available March 11th on Embedded Music.
